Exposure Scenarios and Risk Assessments

Preparation of a Chemical Safety Assessment for REACH registration requires much more than application of an automated tool to an IUCLID data file to produce a Chemical Safety Report.  As well as editing of harvested study results, classification and labelling data, etc., detailed exposure and risk assessment is often required. Through extensive experience of CSA production we have therefore become familiar with a range of industry-standard practices for the development of exposure scenarios, DNELs and PNECs and Risk Characterisation Ratios, covering possible impacts on both human health and the environment.  Even before REACH we prepared risk assessments using study data, computer programmes and knowledge-based application of public domain data to fill data gaps and environmental distribution/impact plus health impact models (e.g. USES, EUSES, EASE, SCIES, FOCUS, ConSExpo etc.), then discussed their contents with EU regulators.
